Injectables are among the most popular treatment options available at Dolce Vida Med Spa. Injectables can turn back the clock and make you look more youthful.
In this blog, Scott B. Callahan, PA-C, of Dolce Vida Med Spa explains why wrinkles form, what Botox® is, and what fillers are.
Why do wrinkles develop?
There are two types of wrinkles: static and dynamic. Dynamic wrinkles — which Botox treats — develop when your facial muscles make repeated movements. Over time, the muscles that make these movements can begin to stay in a semicontracted state, pushing up the skin above them into lines and wrinkles. For example, if you squint a lot, you can develop frown lines.
Static wrinkles — which fillers treat — occur when there is a loss of elasticity. Static wrinkles also develop over time, and they develop when skin succumbs to the force of gravity, sometimes creating a drooping effect.
What is Botox?
Botox — which was FDA approved in 1989 — is an injectable anti-wrinkle treatment that’s made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botox works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. By blocking the signals, the muscles can’t contract. This, in turn, causes the muscles to relax, thus smoothing out the skin above.
Treatments, which are made using a very thin needle, only take a few minutes, and no downtime is needed. Furthermore, no anesthesia is needed, though you may feel brief, minor discomfort during treatment. Among the areas you can treat are the following:
- Lines at the corners of the eyes
- Frown lines between the eyebrows
- Horizontal lines across the forehead
- Worry lines around the mouth
When performed by a specialist, you won’t get a frozen-face look. You’ll look natural, only younger.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are soft, gel-like substances that plump skin and smooth away fine lines and winkles. The primary ingredient in most fillers is hyaluronic acid. This chemical is a naturally occurring substance that is already found in your skin. It helps keep skin plump and hydrated.
You may choose to get dermal fillers to:
- Treat smile lines
- Treat marionette lines, which run from the sides of your mouth to your chin
- Increase volume in the middle portion of your face
- Treat acne scarring
- Treat sunken areas beneath the lower eyelids
- Plump up lips
The most popular filler brands include BellafillⓇ, Allofill™ RadiesseⓇ, and JuvedermⓇ.
Similar to Botox, fillers require little to no downtime and can be injected during your lunch break. When performed by a highly skilled provider, dermal fillers can improve texture, volume, and create a youthful look for years.
Injectables are a safe and proven treatment to reduce the look of fine lines and winkles. If you’re considering injectables, book an appointment online or over the phone with Dolce Vida Med Spa today.
